Paul,

One other location is very possible.
The only problem is I don't know what to call that part of the piano,
   so I do my best to describe it.

Sitting under the soundboard and facing the lyre
   look partly up to what a Steinway cross section diagram I have
   calls a "cross block".

I have seen serial numbers there. Look all the way across.
