I pull the material against a fresh razor blade tapped into the edge of piece of wood. An old back-action tray works great, so that the upright portion of the tray acts as a guide. Tap the blade into your edge X" from the corner of the tray, X being the width of strip you need. Cut enough freehand to hold the material and pull it against the blade with one hand while gently feeding/holding the material to the guide. Note that the jig is firmly clamped down on the bench.
