With an open faced block, couldn't you drill a pilot hole and install a screw alongside the broken one?
Then just veneer and stain over the broken one.
Or get a broken screw extractor, available in 1/4" and 3/8', Pianotek has them. Cut a hole around the broken screw.
Then plug and install a new screw.
