[pianotech] Key Damage

I've tried what you're suggesting. In fact, I've tried just about every
filler I can think of. It's messy and it doesn't work all that well anyway.
I do what Ron does and I agree that Mike Morvan probably does it better than
either of us.

I haven't done this before so I am just talkin' out of my... er, "thinking
out loud" here. Short of replacing the wood with wood (which is probably the
best way to go), how about taking up the slack with some reliable wood
filler (such as Durham Rock Hard Putty or the like) in conjunction with one
of Bill Spurlock's mortice sizing cauls? Just my two cents worth (and that's
about all my Friday afternoon musings are worth these days!).

Key damage to front rail hole, wood missing. 

I have only fixed the odd one of these over the years, and was not entirely
satisfied with the end result of my efforts.

What is the recommended method of repair?

I realize that putting a new piece of wood in is the way to go, but I am
unsure of how to go about it.
