Douglas,

you are right. I was mistaken concerning wearing gloves on stringing. It´s of course because of the sweat and not the fat, so no problem with Ballistol on strings or dampers. But I still have doubts about Ballistol on leather, even when it´s one of the main purposes of Ballistol. As I mentioned, I saw many leather things getting drier than before. The document you attached shows a warning not to use Ballistol on velours.

Concerning Ballistol and glue: usually I use white glue named Ponal (it´s the brand name). The producer says that the parts should be free of fat. I looked that up on the TiteBond homepage. There is no hint about fat on the parts. I don´t see many problems with soaked key bushings, because not so much oil might get on the wood. But when you apply it on action centers, much more oil might get in the wood than on key bushings.

It´s an very interesting topic and I will ask these questions in the German forum of the BDK (Bund Deutscher Klavierbauer). I will post the results here, but it might take some time.
