[pianotech] Filling screw holes

Paul,
I agree that it can not be totally fixed. But if I were to TRY (and I like to fool around with stuff like this!) I'd get a bunch of clamps, a long wooden caul and a really flat bar of something, put the damaged lid portion on end with the screw holes pointing up, get some super-thin CA into the holes with a hypodermic needle, and then clamp it all together to try to squeeze the bulges flat while the CA soaks into the fibers and cures. (Or just treat a few holes/bulges at a time.) Some obvious problems with this idea being, of course, how one would keep spilled CA off of the surrounding lid sides? And what to do if it cures too hard to put the screws back in, and/or too soon because of some chemical reaction with stuff in the MDF that acts as a CA "kicker"? (But I'll gladly send $5 to the very first lad or lassie who tries something like this, and reports back to us all!)

Thumpe

P.S. On reconsideration, perhaps some thinned-out water-based glue that dries very hard (Like Dale's special Titebond?) would be better to try on a few holes first, before attempting to use the CA.)
