[pianotech] Baldwin - Acrosonic Numbers?

I dated this serial number from a Baldwin service manual that I have, which
contains the serial numbers for Acrosonics and other Baldwin products. It
dates this Acrosonic as being made in 1946.

????You must get tired of us trying to find the manufacture dates of pianos,
but you guys?always have more answers than me.? I have now found three
pianos where the serial numbers make no sense.? All are Baldwins.? An
acrosonic with a serial of 374468 which puts it in 2007, but it is obviously
older and has a tuner dating it in 1960 something.? Today a Howard (made by
Baldwin) with a number of 312706?putting it at 1993, but it has a tuners
date in 1970.? Another Acrosonic serial of 395074 and that is past my Pierce
Atlas.? WHAT THE HECK?????? What is the secret of finding a date on a
Baldwin??
?
Ed,
Did you ever think to look under ACROSONIC?!! <G>(or...Howard, Hamilton?)
Most of these queries have to do with techs not learning how to use the Atas
as it was intended....and then, not reading it correctly.. Sheesh! OR, not
carrying it with them out in the field. Or, just to cheap to buy one.<G> The
serial numbers given are 1946, 1941 & 1947, all Acrosonic numbers according
to my olde Atlas,(The Howard could have been under the Hamilton numbers, but
you said it had a 1970 tuner date, so it has to be Acrosonic number). ( I
have them all of the Atlas's, including the original Michelle's, up to the
newest.<g>) I will admit, that, as long as the Atlas has been around, it is
most confusing and sometimes just downright WRONG!
Case in point, the numbers for 7' & 9' Knabes. There was a separate system
for those and the ATLAS dude was convinced, (by a well known technician), to
drop that information, because that tech didn't agree with the information!!
What's that all about? Then there's all the Yacht Club stuff and the Famous
People pictures etc., which most of us really could care less about.<G> I
will say thank you to the Son who is continuing to maintain it, even after
his Father's demise. He's to be complimented on that. I suspect it is not
all that profitable and can eat up a whole lot of time maintaining it. In
the past I've sent varifiable information to upgrade certain manufacturers
stats, but it's never surfaced in the newer ones, so I'm wondering if it's
just a "Black Hole".?
Best Regards,
Joe
