[pianotech] Humidity

I had this epiphany as well. I told them not to bother tuning the piano
once the outside temperature dropped below the inside temp. during the
week. For a perfprmance last week, I fortunately was able to persuade
them to turn the a/c on two days prior.

I was tuning in a low-ceiling basement room today. The central a/c vent
was in the ceiling over the piano. With the lid up, the cold air blew on
the 5th octave area (I was already in oct 6). The section went 2c sharp.
I put the lid at half-stick to block the air. Adjusted the pedals and
returned tuning from C5 again. Raised the lid when the air was off,
lowered it when it came back on.

 >After a few years of these chronic psychotic episodes, I refused to
tune the piano during the winter months.
