Does anyone know what purpose (if any) those mesh screens serve that are under the movable counterbearing bars on older Steinways? Are they just non skid surfaces, or do they function as some kind of buzz barrier between the bars and the plate, or something else I haven't thought of? David Love www.davidlovepianos.com
