John,

I will also be blocking Duaine's posts. But we SHOULD NOT have to
individually block people to make this a friendly, respectful forum for
communicating with each other about piano technology.

I have personally asked various members of leadership why we must
continue to put up with people like Duaine who continuously show
disrespect for others and offer nothing positive to the rest of the
community. The answer is that there is no official position of authority
to carry this out. There is no moderator, apparently. Nobody wants the
job or the responsibility. There is some notion that if one person is
removed for bad behavior, then it opens a can of worms, and then we will
have the burden of having to be fair about how such things are handled
in the future, so that nobody is discriminated against or treated more
harshly than some other troublemaker was treated in the past. So the
solution is to do nothing? I'm getting tired of nothing being the
solution, and seeing people like Duaine insult people who don't deserve
to be insulted. I don't care about Duaine's feelings. I care about the
feelings of the hundreds of decent people who want a friendly
environment to share ideas with each other; people who know how to
behave like mature adults.

I just don't get it. I've run and moderated a number of forums for
various organizations, and it's really easy: If someone is a
disrespectful jerk, they get banned. Everyone is happy, life goes on.
The next disrespectful jerk to ruin the party for everyone else gets
banned, too. Why are we putting up with this crap? Why can't we, in the
name of respect and decency, set some reasonable standards of normal
human behavior and draw a line? It's time for us to realize that good
will, a collaborative spirit, and mutual respect is far too important to
let someone like Duaine Hechler crap all over it day after day after day.

Nobody wants the job? Give it to me, then. I'll be glad to hit the "Ban"
button if nobody else has wants to take the flak for making a decision.
