I do it because it gives more support to the pin so that it won't flagpole so much. I've done this on old Mason & Hamlin grands and others that don't have plate bushings many times, to a positive effect. Ron N I like this idea - the plan is to drill the new block with plate installed because I will only rout out the existing block - not completely remove and replace - (never did this before) so to ream the plate to the size of the tuning pin bushing sounds like it can only help with guiding the drill bit.
