List,

We are assured by President Jim Coleman Jr. that the Council will not be voting on the future of the Mailman list. I've copied our correspondence below. :

I apologize for the extended unwrapped lines in part of this string - I copied and pasted from H/L and the formatting got wacked. Go figure.

    Jim,

Is it OK with you if I post your reply on the lists? A number of participants are as concerned as I about the possible actions of Council regarding the future of the lists.

  thanks

  Mike

  Mike,

"Mailman" is a hot topic and there will assuredly be discussions of it in Council but there is no proposal/vote planned.

Now if the Board chooses to put an 'emergency' proposal on the agenda that is a different kettle of worms, however I do not expect that to happen.

Jim, thanks for your quick reply. But I am confused. Israel Stein recently posted to PTG-L that there will be a vote, and I quote:
"A Council update has just been distributed to all delegates, containing (among mostly procedural information) the following notice: "Please be sure to discuss the Bylaws proposals with your chapter prior to arriving so that you come prepared to vote. There will also be a question put before Council regarding the futures of the Mailman software as well as the forum software." So how can it also be true that there is no proposal on the agenda? Perhaps we are playing with strict definitions, where having plans to put a question before the Council is not, strictly speaking, to have a Proposal on the Agenda. I hope that's not what this is about. All I can do is continue to ask: If there are plans to put a question to a vote in Council, will you please publish the question to the chapter delegates so that they may discuss it with their chapters and come prepared to vote? thanks for your continued indulgence, I am only trying to understand what's happening, Mike Spalding

I understand that there will be a question put before Council regarding the futures of the Mailman software as well as the forum software. I think it would be in the best interest of the organization for Chapter delegates to be given a copy of the specific proposal so that they can discuss it with their chapters and arrive at Council prepared to vote. Therefore I am requesting that you send this proposal to each delegate, and also add it to the electronic copy of the agenda book at the PTG.org website.

  thank you
