I think that's what's wrong with the sound, generally, and the tone 
falling apart at high attack levels.

As I said, I haven't gotten to hear the Steingraeber in a quiet enough 
room to tell much of anything.

What was the bearing set at when you heard it?

It all comes down to stiffness and mass, however it's arrived at.
