Measuring and extrapolating as best I could, I went with the S&S spec 
for the treble hammers: 2 9/16". This produced a even blow distance with 
the bass.

  Sorry. Ray wasn't reading far enough. The spec is 2 1/4 bass and 2 5/8 tenor with 6 or 7 degrees of rake. He says the bore can vary a little.  What a shock.
