One thought that I have, often, is the difference in sound/tone, in the = different materials used for the upper termination point, (Nut). Many of the = really nice Olde uprights/grands used wood for the upper bass termination point, = which in my opinion gives a much nicer bass sound. Some have used brass. As the = plate technology progressed, most settled on having the upper nut cast into = the plate. At least on uprights, this is the case. IMO, as they moved away from = brass & wood for the terminations, the sound seems to get more strident and = higher partials prevail. Am I imagining things? Or, is this perception real?</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I know that, by changing the material = on my Hagstrom ,bass, from wood to brass, it gave it a whole different sound. = It seems that the harder the material used, the more upper partials seem to be = present.
