bracket replacement, and associated clicking

FAMILY="SANSSERIF" PTSIZE="12" BACK="#ffffff">
Hi All,=

Just did my first "expanding bracket" replacement today=
on a Weber WG 60, circa 1995 (action spread 113.5mm). It=
was for the most part pretty straightforward. Before=
I started doing the job, I noticed that there was clicking as=
the hammers rebounded off the rail. I thought it would be=
solved when the brackets were replaced.

The only problem=
was that when I got the action spread measured and set, then set=
the blow distance, the clicking was still there. Turns out=
they were tapping the wippen assist springs as the hammers=
bottomed out.

Everything lined up and regulated=
okay but for this. Has anybody here had this problem on=
these pianos before and come up with a decent solution? I=
experimented with the action spread a little bit, but things=
just did not line up the way they're supposed to. =

The hammer tails are pretty thick. I experimented=
with shaving off some of the undersides so that they would miss=
the springs altogether, and it seemed to do the trick. =

Any ideas on this? I'm sending my claim form off=
to Meadowlands Piano Service today, so now it's my baby...=

Thanks, as always,

Dave Stahl=
