<P>I saw a jig for bench regulating once at Vintage Pianos (I think =
they
were called) in the north Seattle area that one of the Fandrich boys =
put
together. It was set up if I remember so that you could pretty =
faithfully
re-create the key bed and get really good bench regulating results.

<P dir=ltr><FONT face="Comic Sans MS" color=#000080>I've used =
two benches set
up for regulating. One was based on a 1-1/2" maple slab, =
thickness-planed
a dead flat as I could get it. Cross-grain slip-ribs were used across =
the
bottom to keep it flat. The bench I use now is based on a maple/alder =
laminate
with a heavy maple rim. The top surface has a thick layer of epoxy. =
The edges
were built up about two or three mm above the bench surface and =
epoxy
flowed in and leveled out. The bottom surface is also epoxy coated. =
It's flat
and stable. Along the front edge are Steinway style center-rail =
keyframe
bedding screws on 200 mm centers adjustable from the bottom. =

<P dir=ltr><FONT face="Comic Sans MS" color=#000080>The action =
is bedded in
the piano and key dip set as accurately as possible. The action is =
transferred
to the bench and the bench bedding screws are adjusted up to duplicate =
the
keydip specification on the bench. Most keyframes will set up =
this way.
Occasionally there is one in which the keydip will be shallow on the =
bench in
which case a 1 mm veneer is placed under the balance rail. </FONT>

perfect but it's
close and I'm past the point of wanting to do all my regulating in the =
