Willem put it in numbers and I suppose most will concur with these. Monetary value of pianos never seems to really represent a clear picture of the musical or other worths of an instrument however. If the rebuild is done in such a way that the instrument ends up playing, sounding, and looking like a billion stars... then its real worth is going to be something different then what you may get somebody to pay for it. In the end you gotta make the call. And you have to balance all these worths against each other and how much it takes to get any level of quality out of it. I am not familiar with the Schiller make so these comments are meant more in a general sense.   <blockquote TYPE=CITE> <blockquote TYPE=CITE style="BORDER-LEFT: #0000ff 2px solid; MARGIN-LEFT: 5px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px; PADDING-LEFT: 5px">The piano is a Schiller 5'4" grand, with a black walnut "Starburst" finish.  It is in pretty good shape (the finish that is)  It is beautiful, dark on the edges, and rubbed-out in the middle to expose beautiful grain.  Anyone farmiliar with this finish?        The pinblock is shot, the board still has about 1/8th or so of crown (one crack that is bad enough to warrant some kind of repair), the bridges look like candidates for epoxy treatment, cracks there, but not too bad.  Needs new hammers and shanks, regulation, cleaning, etc.        The serial number is #86,285, which my atlas says is 1934 or 1935.        The big question to you, oh esteemed listees, is: is this a piano that is worth sinking bucks into, or will it end up worth only what you put into it?</blockquote> </blockquote> -- Richard Brekne RPT, N.P.T.F.
