Hi Joe

I agree The cold glue is compatible with old hide. I think it reactivates it and melds with it.
I think the reason for the failure rate of tightbond over old hide as you say Joe is this, when tightbond is applied over old hide glue the tightbond will not stick to the old hide. The whole thing will however turn to a mess and then the tightbond and the hide glue scrapes off easily in one gooie convoluted mix. WHich is a good way to get old hide glue to scrape off easily. Once clean use whatever glue you wish.
But I don't think this mixing of glues would make for a strong glue joint at all. JMHO

I would have to agree with Dale, on this one. I've been using "Cold Hide
Glue" for many years and have yet to have a failure. I use it on separated
Upright pinblocks, as it is most compatable with the original glues used.
Whereas, titebond type glues, I have noticed, have a high failure rate when
used in conjunction with hide glues.
Just my experience.
