Barbara,<br>
Had a Kimball like that, that also had some slightly
loose pins in the low tenor cluster. They had enough space so I could tap
the bottom (right) pin in a bit, and that freed-up some of the upper
pins. Tapping the middle pin in a little gave me three planes of string
height off the plate. Just about the thickness of the string, though. Not
really a lot. Didn't always help when there was a sizeable deflection
sideways. I have used Protek on the strings, with fair results.
Especially when there is under-string felt crammed in that little space.
Seems to help the strings render over the felt. Then again, a muggy day
out here is about 24%RH. May make a difference. Some of the overlapped
strings I've seen didn't respond to any manipulation at all. Just had to
use BFFI, and hope for the best.<br><br>
Good Luck,<br>

Protek on strings and read a great deal, but didn't see this particular

<font face="arial" size=2>This past week I tuned a Cable Nelson console
which suffered from a case of strings that overlap in the tuning pin
section, making it a tad difficult to set unisons (or anything else for
that matter). You know, you get one string set, tune the next, and
it throws the previous one off again. Grrr. Would it help to
dab a bit of Protek on them? Would it be too risky being that close
to the pinblock? Has anyone done this before?</font><br>
