<DIV>This appears to be a jig for slicing a broken hammer shank and a replacement shank. Put the broken shank in one end and use the long slot to guide a saw blade for cutting the shank. Put the new replacement shank in the other end of the hole (tunnel) and run the saw blade again to cut the corresponding shank at the same angle. Then you glue them together, using (perhaps) a straw to keep them aligned.</DIV>

<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I found this tool in a box of tools given to me. I'd like to know what it is. A hammer shank fits all the way through each of the holes longitudinally, and the screws are perpendicular to those holes, as if the screws are meant to hold the hammer shanks in place. (to what purpose?) And why is there a diagonal slot sawn into the side, intersecting each of the "shaft tunnels"?</FONT></DIV>
