The morning rush is in full swing. My wife is on the early shift, so I've
got the AM-kids-out-the-door-to-school shift. One to drop at the high
school, the other to swing by my mom's so he can walk to school. I've got my
lunch, a bottle of water, and my tuning kit slung over my shoulder. Still
partially dark, we make our way into the garage, and I sling the stuff off
my body into the side back door of the van. Back out, and notice something
that looks like a small binocular case sitting on the garage floor.... on
the wheel tracks. It's my pocket pc.... the one I use for tuning. MAJOR
BUMMER! (well, that's what back-up gear is for!) The Palm with my client
info sits on my belt, so at least that was safe.
Just for giggles later in the day I hook it up to the computer. I have to
reset and restore, but it appears that the insides are still working. The
screen is shattered of course, but I ordered one online and will see if it
still works! Meanwhile I've got a lead on an older model from Craigslist for
about the same price as a new screen. (never can have too many back-ups)
Anyway, a terrrible moment turned out not to be soo bad after all.
