Hi Geoff,

I did a google search and found this from the
archives. I thought it might be helpful because the piano manufacture
Samick was mentioned. Perhaps they bought out that name and can help
you.

List,
>
> A customer has a Sherman Clay
Grand Model SCDH SDG1 circa 1986. I've
> maintained it since
it was new. About 3 weeks ago a bass string broke.
> Then
another, now another. The first and third broke at the agraffe and>
the other at the bridge pin. Her son plays a lot of Rachmaninoff
type
> music with a heavy hand. Any others experience
this? Are we in for one
> at a time breaks? Should I
recommend replacing the whole set?
>

>

If your customer is into Rachmaninoff, I
would recommend replacing the whole
piano. A 4' 10" Sherman Clay, (AKA
Samick), is not made to stand up to Rach.

I had the
opportunity to work on a very nice Sherman Clay baby grand this afternoon.
Pitch raise, fine tune and a couple minor repairs. Everybody's happy. I then
went to look up the age of the piano, and while Pierce does have an entry for
Sherman Clay it doesn't have anything listed even close to this serial
number. Nor could I find anything on line. Many changes of ownership
for the Sherman Clay name has left an void for this Sherman Clay model
SDG1, serial number: G021786. Does anybody here know where else I might
look to find this date?
