<DIV>Acrylic keytop dissolved in acetone is for quick surface hardening. The acetone flashes off very quickly and you get the effect in about 5 minutes. Plexiglas scraps are the same stuff as keytops without the white pigment. Pianotek sells plexiglas crumbs.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Lacquer, in various dilutions, is used for deeper hardening, as in Steinway hammers. It needs to harden overnight.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>(Blonde shellac flakes in alcohol can also be used, and was used in Steinway before they switched to lacquer finishes. Needs to dry several hours if you soak it in deep. Some of us prefer it to lacquer because it doesn't smell as bad and we find it easier to work with for voicing.)</DIV>

<DIV>Greetings,</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV> Is using laquer the same thing as actetone? Also, (coming from a family of auto body finishers/painters) I know that laquer thinner melts laquer and laquer based keytops, but straight laquer over wool? How thick is the laquer? Or is it named "laquer" for piano purposes, and is what it truly is, is laquer <EM>thinner</EM> with laquer melted/dissolved into it in a really thin solution? </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Thanks in advance,</DIV>
