for Baldwin pianos states very clearly that if the sostenuto brackets need to be
moved horizontally, do <STRONG>NOT</STRONG> shim them to change their position
horizontally. Instead ( at least on older pianos without adjusting screws
) they want us to <STRONG>bend</STRONG> the brass or aluminum brackets.
Bending brackets seems to me a hazardous method - especially on older pianos
where the metal may be brittle. What harm is there in putting a thin piece
of card stock behind the bracket to shim it out if need be??</FONT></SPAN></DIV>
