in 29 years did I see an agraffe that broke with the strings still in place.
This was an old S&S M. The customer on the phone was telling me that an
agraffe had broken and I just wouldn't believe her. But she was right. So I had
to replace 2 strings in the tenor and the broken thing. I had no problem
removing it though. </SPAN></FONT></DIV>

<DIV>I'm beginning to think this could be wierd. How could it break down in
the plate, within the length of the tapped, threaded hole? How did the
top part come out? Did it rip out part of the threads?</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I replaced the agraffes on a 1970's D where holes had not been tapped
deep enough to take the agraffe shank. They had been forced in, smashing the
threads to fit. And this required tapping the holes to proper depth
before putting in new agraffes.</DIV>

<DIV>If you don't have taps for agraffe holes, maybe you could borrow some and
bring them along.</DIV>
