<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Terry, This may be just too simple, but have you
checked the sustain pedal to see that it is not lifting the dampers a
tad?</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><BR></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I have been working on a Farrano Pian Co.
54" upright S/n23990 pre 1910.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>At this point it has been tuned. I made the
mistake of tuning it 20 cents flat as the customer said she was concerned
about it being so old. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I have also done numerous minor
repairs, shaped the hammers, replaced the damper felts and given it a
minor regulation.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>The piano has developed a strange "after ring"
in random notes in the mid treble down into the single bass strings. Even if
I press on the new damper felt it continues!</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I have checked the damper regulation (timing
seems fine, lift ok and if I press on a string the damper follows
nicely. I've done the basic string checks ie, seated at the
bridge, bridge pins, checked to see if the sound changes at the capo
bar if I gently press a brass rod agains the string sideways etc. The
plate is tight to the tuning pin block and the ribs are tight, I can
see no cracks in sound board, nothing has fallen down between the plate and
wooden parts front or back. I have removed pictures off the walls, items off
nearby tables etc.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I even had a fellow RPT look at this instrument
and we can not find the trouble. she did make a couple of recommendations
and I have done those. they included checking the spacing of the hammers
(again) and gently reshaping the hammers.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I have one thing I am going to try yet. I see
no reason not to tune this piano to A440. I have discussed this with the
owner. After literally spending all day in her not air conditioned house in
this 100 + weather here in Oregon I gave up for the day.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I am totally stumped. sure would appreciate
some insite from you guys and gals!!</FONT></DIV>
