I make a note on my office answering greeting that
if you have an urgent call I can always be reached by calling my cell phone.
That being said I find myself trying to be very selective as to what calls I'm
going to answer and which ones I don't. For my steady auditorium and
important accounts, which are always needing to speak to for one reason or
other, I have them saved into my phone with their names. If it's them
that's calling, I answer it. If it's a number I don't recognize ,and keeping my
work pace on target is the priority, then the call gets returned when I'm
free. Simple as that.

However the other day I was banging out
tunings for my college account, going from one practice room to another, the
excuse to stop and talk to a client was welcomed when the cell phone rang.
It gave me an excuse to slow down.

I don't think there is one rule which will
fit each occasion, but on the whole, I have to agree that when you are at
someone's home and on their nickel, you need to give them your full
attention.
