<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Today I had a older church Steinway that a few
years back had some hammer reshaping and regulation work by a legitimate tech,
but now the upper hammers (oct. 4 and upper have about 20 hammers that do not go
into check but rather strike the string and then drop very slightly but even
under a hard blow will not lower anymore than perhaps 15mm (not enough to
check).</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I measured the hammer blow distance seemed correct,
the let-off and drop seemed not bad and the general keydip across everything
seemed also correct. I did not have time to get too involved but want to come
back later to resolve this issue. Maybe someone else has seen this happen?????
I'm hoping there is a simple solution to what may have happened.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Is this possibly due to:</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>(a) Repetition Springs to strong on those notes
(maybe after filing the hammers)</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>(b) gunk maybe preventing repetition spring from
proper flexing in the groove</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>(c)keydip or bedding screws may have changed
after time</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>(d) the whole regulation maybe completely off even
though the measurements seem not bad</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>(e) all the above</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>(f) tell the customer to donate this piano to
charity and buy a new one!</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I guess I can try to mal-adjust my model to see if
I can get it to do this but I hope some one may know just what this
is!</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Thanks</FONT></DIV>
