<DIV><FONT face=Moderne>List,</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> I've been asked to evaluate a
Steinway D to determine value.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2>This is a piano that was attached in a bankrupcy
proceding and is being held in storage by a trustee (Lawyer) who needs
to attach a dollar value to this piano. The trustee mentioned that the owner has
expressed interest in buying the piano back.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> The piano is an ebony D 1967
.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> In my opinion although
playable this piano is rebuilding stock.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> Case good condition
.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> Plate has that bronzy-crinkle
finish I've seen on S and S piano's from the mid
sixties.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> Soundboard has compression
ridges and poor sustain you know where.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> Pinblock so-so --tunable but
not rock solid.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> Rusty strings .</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> Mold in evidence on
understring felt, around bridge pins and in the action.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> Action is pre teflon but WAY
out of regulation.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> Action parts are free with
moderate wear</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> Keytops show evidence of poor
recovering. The sides of the keys have been
narrowed and the notches are not
square. worn bushings and balace rail holes .</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> Anyway you get the picture
here.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> This piano is playable and
could be improved with keywork- regulation etc. but really needs re-everything
to reach performance level .</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> A new keyset seems necessary
given the above detail</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> I see three options
here.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> 1. Piano is sold to an entity
to play as is with some regulation etc.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> 2. Piano is sold to an entity
( performance venue ?) for rebuilding </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> 3. Piano is sold to a
technician as spec. piano.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> 4 . I use the depreciation
schedule in Larry Fine's book and plug in
the current list price and the percentage of value based on
age .</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> The problem with this option
as I see it is the poor condition factor</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Moderne size=2> So my good friends your
opinions on these options as to dollar value or any other insight will be as
alway's appreciated.Give me a model B and I'll have an idea on these questions
but I'm lost on this one.</FONT></DIV>
