<p>Development of the sostenuto is discussed in Emil Fries' book, "But You Can Feel It", which is, by the way, a very interesting read. As I recall, it was a person from Africa (or of African decent) and he developed it in Paris, I think. <br /><br />Alan Barnard<br />Salem, MO<br /><br /></p>
