bit of information. Though I'm no longer in the situation, for a number
of years I played in a professional orchestra for a conductor who shall remain
nameless (he's out there somewhere, in NYC, I think). He was so very
sensitive to trumpets, specifically, but brass, generally, that if we could be
heard, we were too loud. The principal trumpet player (a very close
friend) was quite convinced that this conductor had hearing loss that was
making him hypersensitive to particular frequencies (and associated partials)
and that this caused the problems the trumpet section had for the duration of
this festival. It was also interesting to note that a guest conductor of
at least equal ability as a conductor had no such issues with the same trumpet
section!</FONT></STRONG></DIV>
