face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:12.0pt'>The problem with any kind
of jig that would pre-stretch a string is that bass strings come in a
variety of lengths. A string for the single strings would be need a much longer
distance from hitch pin to tuning pin than the string up in the tenor section.
The jig would have to come with a moveable hitch pin. The other problem is when
you turn it on the tuning pin, for an upright it might not be a problem, but
for a grand, you're going to have a heck of a time putting that string through
the agraff. <br>
<br>
Hanging a weight on the end of string might be the best solution, but in order
for it to be effective, you would need a weight of approximately 150 - 200
pounds. How are you going to attach that much weight to the end of a string?<br>
<br>
Sorry, Brian, but there is not easy solution. Sometimes we just have to do what
we have to do, and leave it that. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
