I have now been in this business long enough that I think I can stop fibbing about how long I have been in this business! The first time I saw the inside of a piano was in the fall of 1997. I ordered the Randy Potter course on December 31, 1997. I tuned my first piano for pay in April, 1998. And I tuned my first piano for pay that sounded okay in June 1998.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial>You know, I build soundboards and ribs and all sorts of belly stuff, and I think I build them to a pretty high standard. But much of that is because I've done a lot of woodwork in the past - that part of this business comes to me more easily than other parts. Like if someone could teach me how to voice a piano - hey, if I knew how to do that, I might be a REAL piano technician!</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial>I think most of us that like what we do tend to excel in some area but are often puzzled (or at least I hope there is someone else out there like me!) by other tasks that some techs could do with their eyes closed.
