<DIV><FONT face=Arial>I have regulated about 2500 piano in a piano factory. Most
of the regulating was done on the bench. The key is to set up the action
frame on the bench to simulate the keybed. I do this with shims. Once this is
done the regulating will be very close with just minor corrections
needed.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT face="Bookman Old Style" size=2>I dunno what the standard is from a
sports rules perspective, but mine are quite flat. Relatively, that
is. If I had just plunked down $1800 for a new traditional workbench,
laid a straight edge across it and found it to look like my bowling alley
segment, I'd be irate, send it back, whatever. However, in
truth, there are probably more irregularities in the surface of my "bench"
because of the thick, waxy finish than the wood surface. Like I said,
time to refinish.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT face="Bookman Old Style" size=2>I've never used my benches for
anything more than a real fast rough-in of regulation anyway. I prefer
to regulate at the piano. I just find that bench regulations leave me
repeating too many steps when I do get to the piano.</FONT></DIV>
