<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>My Colleagues,</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2> I recently tuned a concert grand for a
visiting well-known pianist. He insisted that when the grand lid is
opened and resting on the long stick, that the -front- lid be closed.
That is, the front lid was extended toward the player
with its bass edge resting on the bass end of the piano
case. The rest of the front lid was supported only by its
hinges.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2> Have any of you seen a grand lid
-intentionally- left open in this configuration? Does that stress the
hinge which connects the front lid with the main lid?</FONT></DIV>
