Unfortunately, I don't think I would be interested, because the shipping alone would kill me.

But even if I was in the area, in my opinion, I don't think those 2 pianos are worth what you're asking. When I moved to Alabama, I took with me a Baldwin F, that was rebuilt with new block and strings, and refinished. Wally Brooks personally voiced his hammers at a seminar in St. Louis, and Tim Coats installed the Wappin bridge in the upper treble. The piano sold for only $8500. If I were still in St. Louis, I might be able to get roughly $6000 for the L when fully restored. Considering the cost of the parts, and my cost to have the piano refinished, that would give me a profit margin of only $2000 - $2500. Considering it will take roughly 200 hours to do the work, that means I'll be working at $10 an hour. Now, if I had nothing to do, and I wanted to rebuild this piano for the experience, then it would be worth it, but still not $3000. Baldwin's just aren't getting what they used to. Just my 2 cents worth.

PS. The customer you referred to me never called.

Hello,

I have a couple pianos I'd like to clear out of my shop. I would really prefer to rebuild them but I really need the space right now and I've got enough projects going that I don't know when I'll have time to get to them. They are very rebuildable and should become fine pianos.

The first is a Baldwin #17391. It is 6' 3" which I believe makes it a model "L". Case is black, no bench. It requires a full rebuild but it should be a real honey of a piano when completed. It is currently on it's side but I remember it having a very big sound even as it is. This should make a great rebuild job and easy to sell to a professional. Price is $3,000 firm.

The second is a 5' 4" Knabe. The piano is on it's side between two others so I can't really get a good look at the serial number but suffice it to say that it is most likely 1920s. It also requires rebuilding. It was formally an Ampico player which is no longer present but that has no consequence on it as a regular piano. Technically it is the same as the equivalent model without. Again it has a good sound even as-is but should become a fantastic piano when rebuilt. Price is $2,000 firm.

Buyer pays shipping but I will be happy to make all necessary arrangements at this end including local pick-up and transfer to keyboard carriage. This is a great opportunity to snatch up a couple of nice rebuildable pianos at a fair price. They deserve to be in the hands of a good rebuilder and then to a new happy home.
