That particular piece of information is also available for free online at <a href="http://www.bluebookofpianos.com/ages/">http://www.bluebookofpianos.com/ages/</a> .<br>Paul (or Chris, for that matter) could very well have gotten it there and simply been advising Chris to acquire a Pierce. I think that referring to this occasional, nay, rare occurrence of someone asking for a piano's mfg date as stealing is a very strong accusation.<br>
<br>That said, be it known that the aforementioned site can be useful in some cases. There are plenty of piano brands/serial numbers that are not on it, however, and the Pierce Atlas is a far better resource. <br><br>Chris, if the full price of a new Pierce is too steep, I'd suggest keeping your eyes open for a used copy of an older edition. I'm currently using the 9th ed. and it's plenty adequate for at least 90% of my needs. Some of the newer mfg dates are available from the mfr's' websites, or by a phone call, or hey just wing it... if the customer bought it new in 1995, it was probably mfr'd in 1994 or 1995 and for your and my purposes that's plenty close enough!<br>

<div>Stealing a man's work (material probably from the Pierce Piano Atlas in
this case), strikes me as inappropriate behavior on the part of those that
insist upon sharing openly the product of someone else's hard gotten
gain, copyright protection and entitlement to ethical behavior. I don't
care if the man is dead and incapable of personal attempts at redress: I do not
know this for a fact, but I believe the family continues on with sale and
publication of the book. In any case, to broadcast information out of this
valuable resource for the free consumption of the masses constitutes
unethical behavior and aggrandizement plain and simple. We cannot regulate
behavior behind closed doors or monitor private communications, but to blatantly
support, abet, encourage, proliferate and engage in the wholesale exchange of
protected information via this public medium is wrong. </div>

admonition, practice): "Get yourself a Pierce (<i>Piano</i>)
