<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Those of you who indicated that this design allowed
the player to play more efficiently by locking the keys in the up, or at rest
position, were correct. When the transmission is placed in 'play' a
rail under the keys is raised against the green action cloth near the front
bottom of each key preventing the front of the key from moving. The player
action contacts the cloth under the tail end of the key, lifting only that back
half to play a note. When playing the piano manually the key works as a
single unit. I personally hate this 'feature' as there is no visual
entertainment!</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>And oh my yes, there is a pile of lead! From
six at #1 to five at #88. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Most of the leads have swelled excessively and
there was an attempt at repair. A poor attempt in that they just filled
the split key wood with gobs of glue. Additionally, two keys were in four
pieces when I unpacked the shipping box. Another key feel in two of its
own weight as I held it.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>What I don't understand (or just don't want to take
the time to figure out) is why they blocked the balance hole mortise with a
glued on flange. Certainly there could have been a different placement
or a simple mechanical attachment.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Anyway, with several minor - major repairs and some
simple modifications of tooling to work around the lock rail cloth under
the keys the key top job is underway.</FONT></DIV>
