Sorry, Joe. Misunderstood. I don't know if there is a rule of thumb for adjusting those. What is the problem that you're having that makes you think it might be the spring?

The rule of thumb is that after the hammer has checked, the hammer should "rise gently" when the key is released. What is considered "a gentle rise" varies, but I've always felt that a small but significant rise is good. If there is a kick, it's too strong. You should also feel the release on the key. (In actuality, the wippen pushes the key down, but we see it as a the hammer rising.

But there are lots of things that effect the spring tension. The most important thing is where the hammer checks. Too high or too low will give you different results. With that comes correct key dip. The other thing that will effect rep spring tension is the spring groove. It needs to be clean but lightly lubricated.

How to adjust the springs on various models is another subject.

I hope this information helps you.

For what it's worth, just yesterday I thought about putting together a technical on this exact subject for one of our chapter meetings. So any additional comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
