<DIV>Hello Alexander,</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV> The piano tuning system you refer to is known as</DIV>
<DIV>" The Wurlitzer Uniplate System".</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV> It was used in their Grands and Upright Players</DIV>
<DIV>mostly in their Studio scale 808 as a player.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV> Most of the Grands were of the 4' 9'" size.</DIV>
<DIV>They were sold under names such as DeKalb,</DIV>
<DIV>Farny, Strad, Kingston, Schaff Bros, and another</DIV>
<DIV>Wurlitzer product whose name escapes me at the </DIV>
<DIV>moment.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV> It is thought by many that this is a " Melville
Clark"</DIV>
<DIV>invention. Wurlitzer bought the Melville Clark Co. </DIV>
<DIV>about 1925 and used the Uniplate System on the </DIV>
<DIV>Melville Clark brand " Apollo ". There wanted a high </DIV>
<DIV>quality piano to complement their lower priced
</DIV>
<DIV>Wurlitzers to offer their dealers. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV> This is the some thought the Cable Co. had when </DIV>
<DIV>they bought the Conover Bros.Co. about 1900 </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV> To restring this piano use the original pins. use
about </DIV>
<DIV>two raps on the string replace the pin in the hole drive</DIV>
<DIV>to the desired height then tighten string. After several</DIV>
<DIV>strings are replaced you can make your own judgement</DIV>
<DIV>as to how many wraps to use </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV> Remove pins by removing the wedges and taping out </DIV>
<DIV>from the bottom. I have found that the pins are
fairly </DIV>
<DIV>soft metal. If any pins brakes I have replacement pins </DIV>
<DIV>on
hand. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV> I would like to have the ser. no. number of single
bass</DIV>
<DIV>strings and the no. of bi-cord wraped strings. Also does </DIV>
<DIV>the action have coil springs on both the repetition lever </DIV>
<DIV>and the jacks.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV> This information will be for the Foundation Museum
</DIV>
<DIV>"Piano Registry" for future Technicians who may come</DIV>
<DIV>across this tuning system. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV> We are restringing such a grand in my shop now.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Hope this helps, feel free to call 972 - 278 - 9312.
</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Regards,</DIV>
