any difference in how it plays? (Only trying to be slightly flippant
here). The forces of gravity are only slightly off a vector normal to
the keyframe/keybed/action/whatever. 1.5 vertical inches to about 55
horizontal inches gives you about a 1.6 degree angle deviation from
normal. If that amount of side bearing give the piano fits, the
piano has fits regardless.</FONT></DIV>

out, a grand will not rack with it's three points of contact with the

S&S pianos are designed to have guide rail bushings with more play
and then specify that the dampers SHOULD lean with a light pressure into the
bushing felt. Of course, that doesn't preclude proper bends in the

Yamaha factory treated the guide felt with something and I’m not sure that
this has anything to do with more compression of the felt on one side.

pianos with guide rail bushing holes reamed so much that the damper wire
rattles and leans into what felt is left. Reaming the hole more won’t
fix binding because the wire is bent wrong. It has to travel straight
through the guide rail holes and with the pull of gravity or more friction
will be added.</SPAN></FONT></P>
