I’m in Windsor Ontario near Detroit. The house has Gas hot water heating, and a fire place in the room that is not in working order so its never used. There is no climate control or parts of one.   The Tuning pin coils have about Ľ-3/8 inch before they touch the plate and none of them are near touching. This is an upt. I’m sure the pounding done by the last tech was done while it was vertical and I tried one pin.   The pin I did try did not feel like it went in deeper at all. When I turned it clockwise it became as loose or looser than before I tapped on it. Some of the Tuning pin bushings look split. No staining any where. The customer says it 8 years old I don’t doubt her she and her daughter were using her granddaughters age to date the purchase.   Honestly I have only every had loose tuning pins in pianos not pins that are too tight. Once though a technician replaced with bigger tuning pins in a piano they were so tight he actually broke one. I don’t think I would ever consider using anything to loosen up tuning pins. If you’ve never tried an extension handle tuning hammer you should.   I did notice that the keys were very very heavy.
