<div dir="ltr"><div><br clear="all">I found that the sheer volume of the Pianotech list had a tendency to overwhelm my inbox when I first subscribed. </div> <div> </div> <div>I solved this problem by setting up a free gmail account but discovered it had some flaws. So I established a free yahoo account and set the gmail account up as the yahoo account manager. The gmail account logs into the yahoo account and checks my mail every 10 minutes or so.</div> <div>The wonderful part of this is I now have a dedicated e-mail address just for the lists, I use the address for nothing else and except for the occasional offer to be someones helper in transferring their funds from Nigeria, I get only list mail and my chapter newsletter in this mailbox.</div> <div> </div> <div>When any of you write to me offlist you usually use my domain address which is just as I would have it.</div> <div> </div> <div>The gmail format works quite well for me to "edit" my choice of what to read, the subject line and who wrote it comes up in the line along with a number telling me how many responses there have been.</div> <div> </div> <div>I have found the lists to be quite informative, as Ron Nossaman put it, <snip> " I've learned much more from discussions of subjects I hadn't realized I was interested or deficient in than I have by asking specific questions".</div> <div>I couldn't agree more and would feel saddened nay cheated if I weren't allowed the opportunity to pick & choose what I read or don't read by changing the way either list is presented.</div> <div>I may, as I'm sure many of you do, skim the dozen or so posts on a given subject but somewhere in the middle find that nugget of information that I can tuck away in my brain and drag it out when I need it. I tend to skip the Bosendorfer/Bechstein posts, I've never tuned one and have none in my area, should one appear, I know where to look for info. I also realize since I have no experience with them I would have nothing to add.</div> <div> </div> <div>IMHO If the lists were edited and winnowed down to a Wikipedia style with a forum type format where each post had a subject and then a discussion within that forum subject were the only place to discuss it. Much of the spontaneity of the list, with several differing ideas of how one can arrive at the same conclusion of a repair or problem, would be lost. We are too much an individual minded group, we work alone and devise our own ways of doing things, ways that work for us, individually, to fit into a strictly structured forum.
