Hi,Mike and Jessica! I had to do this repair today in one of the local Temples....Nice Baldwin M,1948........I think, all those repairs arise when Kitchen helpers-custodians try to move pianos around, pushing the lid,not the rim.....Had to plug stripped holes,re-frill the hinges to install Steinway type ball shaped Lid Hinge Pins [also available from Schaff] and install the CATCHER,as well. Repair is solid,I did it many times, but public places are notorious for destroying things. Regarding shoe Pegs:they were listed in APSCO catalogs, now Schaff sells them..They have a lot of applications for field repairs, much better then toothpics [just kidding]....isaac.

On Sep 5, 2008, at 10:29 AM, Michael Magness wrote:

On Wed, Sep 3, 2008 at 6:44 PM, Jessica Masse <ebonyandivory@on.aibn.com> wrote:

Hi,

Besides drilling and plugging the rim, does anyone have a better way of repairing the hinge screws on a grand piano? I bought a pound of them about 30 years ago and still have more than half of them left. If you can't find them there get them from Schaff. They are made from hard white maple, and with a little titebond added will fix any stripped out screw you may run across on a piano except perhaps a plate screw.

Mike

--
I feel sorry for the person who can't get genuinely excited about his work.
