seen hammers in the top octave of old Steinway uprights where holes had been
drilled by the factory to, I assume, reduce the weight. What else
would they be for if all the others aren't also drilled? The holes
are drilled horizontally thru the molding on the near side (toward the
player) of the shank hole. </FONT></DIV>
