<DIV><FONT face=Tahoma size=2> In my experience, strings break
VERY infrequently. Two examples: Every piano I junk, I purposely
crank each pin until the string breaks. Almost all pins rotate 1/2
turn or more before the string lets go. The Syracuse chapter had a "string
breaking party" this spring at one of the local dealers. They donated a
piano headed for the dump and each member took a turn purposely breaking
strings. It was an eye opener. All were amazed how much punishment
each string took before letting go. Sure there are exceptions, but I've
found the vast majority of pianos will take pulling up to pitch and beyond in
one shot no matter how flat. Do not be afraid. Newer pianos or old,
there is no predictability, and like bananas, broken
strings can come in bunches but seldomly. (seldomly
??) Just my 2 shekels.....</FONT></DIV>
