It's just a motor in a big can that pulls air in one end, filters it, and shoots the filtered air out the exhaust port on the other end. My only problem is I can never remember which end is which, so I'm going to put an arrow on it. The filter isn't paper - it's fabric and reusable.<br> <br> Yes, you need to be careful when vacuuming an action, because any loose felt pieces may suddenly vanish. This happened to me once, but it's very easy to open the canister and find any part that accidentally gets sucked into the vortex of despair.
