<div><br></div><div>I don't know who else sees it, sometimes the algorithm Google uses for rolling out new features is a mystery, but I was just today invited during the login process to try out the new interface.</div>
<div><br></div><div>At first glance, they appear to be incorporating some of the Gmail style features, keyboard navigation, rich composition including inline images. It's really fast. Being a heavy Gmail user, I'm already drooling. Hopefully, some of the engineers from the defunct Wave team will be helping.</div>
<div><br></div><div>I manage a few Google Groups, and it's an "ok" system. Maybe some of what they're working on is the management interface. One interesting thing I bumped into is that if you try to batch import a bunch of email addresses, they'll throttle your rate of import. It can take days. If, however, you use the mode where people are invited to join, and they have to click through the Google interface, that's faster.</div>

Google groups has a web view option if you like the forum style or you can simply use it as an email list, it works both ways. In other words you do not have to log onto googlegroups in order to read posts. They come directly to a designated email if you like. If you want to post you just send it to <mailto:<a href="mailto:pianotech@googlegroups.com" target="_blank">pianotech@googlegroups.com</a>> <a href="mailto:pianotech@googlegroups.com" target="_blank">pianotech@googlegroups.com</a>. In order to utilize the forum style format I believe you have to have a gmail address.<br>

By default it is a mailing list -- that is to say that anyone who subscribes will get emails for every posting and be able to reply by email. Thewre is, as you say, no need ever to go to the web interface UNLESS you need to check that your own postings have arrived, since Google for some reason does not send copies to the sender of his own postings.<br>

Anyone can read the messages on the web without needing a gmail account, but if you want to post from the web interface I think you need a gmail account, which is a very useful thing to have and free for all.<br>
