<DIV>You can try to get the damper to work without a spoon bender. When a
damper doesn't lift when the key is depressed, it means the spoon is too far
away from the damper lever. So you want to bend the spoon towards the damper
lever. You can do this by using the action rail to bend the spoon. Here
is how you do that. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>1. Take out the key.</DIV>
<DIV>2. Take the bridle strap off its wire. The wippen will drop down, but
only a little bit. What is holding up the wippen is the spoon hitting
the action rail. </DIV>
<DIV>3. Gently push down on the wippen. When you push down on the wippen, the
spoon will bend, towards the damper lever. </DIV>
<DIV>(If the wippen is attached to the sticker, you might need to unscrew
the sticker to do this). </DIV>
<DIV>4. When you've done it a little bit, push up on the wippen, (making sure
the jack is under the butt), and see if the damper lifts away from the string.
<BR>5. Repeats #3 as necessary. </DIV>
<DIV>6. When the damper lifts the way it's supposed to, re-attach the bridle
strap, and put the key back in the piano.<BR></DIV>
<DIV style="CLEAR: both"></DIV>
<DIV>Warning. DO NOT do this procedure if the there are plastic
action parts.</DIV>

<FONT face=Arial size=3>Hi Everyone,</FONT><BR><FONT face=Arial size=3>I went
to service one of my customers who owns a Gulbransen spinet piano. one
of the dampers in the bass e flat first octave just won't dampen unless I lift
the bass sustain, guessing it's a spoon because a. the damper acts fine witn
the pedal is depressed, and b. when I lift the key, the damper doesn't
lift. I took my finger and flicked the damper and it appears to have
spring tension. So m y question is this are there more than two types of
spoon benders or are there only two out there? I have one that connects
to the combination handle and another that has it's own handle all one piece
flatter design. Do you guys have a easier way to get at the spoon in a
spinet? Thanks</FONT><BR><FONT face=Arial
